College Board Big Future Platform
One of our five pillars is using career development technologies. Career development technologies, such as College Board’s BigFuture, are the digital tools, platforms, and systems designed to help individuals plan, build, and advance their education and career pathways. They help people explore options, gain skills, connect with opportunities, and track progress toward their goals. These technologies are used in schools, colleges, workforce programs, and by employers to strengthen lifelong career readiness.
We provided strategic guidance to increase BigFuture’s responsiveness to “non college-bound” learners. We began with an overview of modernized career-ready practices applicable to career development technologies, including personalized career assessment tools, research on developmental processes, and best practices for student leadership of their own learning process. We also conducted a market scan to assess capacities, comparing the assets and limitations of various available personalized career planning tools. Our investigation culminated in a set of actionable recommendations to enhance student support, engagement, and further modernization of the BigFuture platform.
